NOTE
There are many reasons for the failures of seed sowing, quite apart from any
faults of the seeds themselves.
Reasons
for failed seeds germination :
Size matters. The smaller the seed, the more shallow it should be sown.
Seed life is adversely affected by excessive humidity and temperature.
Always
treat and handle seed with care to prolong its life.
Once
the foil sachet has been opened, the seeds should be used within 2 months.
Water
well. Do it gently or you will dislodge the seeds.
Sow
seeds in the absence of diseased soil. Always sow seeds in sterilised seed
& potting mix and ensure that the containers are clean.
Do
not over-watering, give the seeds poor drainage and lack of ventilation.
Seeds in direct contact with fertilizers, can be burnt.
Do
not sow the seeds too deep. Always refer to the back of the seed packet for
the correct depth and distance.
Keep out of birds, cats, dogs and insects. These are often responsible for
destroying seeds and seedlings.
Even
after young seedlings have germinated, they are often destroyed by slugs and
snails.
